Who we are
Smit Debt Counselling is a debt counselling practice helping households regain control of their finances through regulated debt review. We’re a small, client‑focused office in Bothasig that prefers clear guidance over call‑centre scripts. Most clients find us through word of mouth and our Facebook community updates.
Debt review can feel intimidating and it sometimes carries an unfair stigma. We keep the process clear and supportive from your first chat through to your clearance certificate, so the experience is steady and positive from start to finish.

Meet the counsellor
You’ll work directly with Martie Smit (NCRDC1067) from your first chat to your clearance certificate. We’ll review your budget, propose an affordable plan, negotiate with your credit providers, and keep you updated as the court confirms your plan.
How we work
- Free credit assessment to understand your situation.
- Budget‑based proposal and negotiation with your credit providers.
- One monthly payment via the regulated Payment Distribution Agent (PDA).
- In‑person consultations available for nearby clients by appointment.
- Court order confirms your plan. We stay your point of contact.
- On completion you receive a clearance certificate and bureaus are updated.

- Debt review (debt counselling) under the National Credit Act.
- Plan maintenance and updates if your circumstances change.
- Guidance to help you stay on track during the plan.
- Clearance certificate (Form 19) and credit‑bureau updates on completion.
